On July 21, construction officially began on the Guangzhou Pearl River Power Plant's 2×600 MW Coal-Fired Power Replacement Project for Environmental Protection, with GEDI acting as the EPC contractor.
The Pearl River Power Plant is located on the west bank of the Pearl River estuary in Nansha District, Guangzhou. It is Guangzhou's first large-scale port-based coal-fired power base and serves as an important power supply hub for the Pearl River Delta. This project is among the first batch of equal-capacity replacement retrofit projects in Guangdong Province and the first of its kind in Guangzhou. It involves decommissioning and dismantling the plant's four existing 320 MW subcritical coal-fired units and constructing two new 600 MW ultra-supercritical double-reheat coal-fired power generation units on the original site, thereby achieving the goal of significantly improving quality without any increase in total capacity.
