Recently, the Guizhou 500kV Liupanshui Dawan Low-Calorific-Value Power Plant Transmission Project, surveyed and designed by GEDI, was completed and commissioned.
Spanning 46.5 km, the project is Guizhou's first line of wind power, solar power, thermal power, and energy storage directly connected to the main grid. It features 129 new towers and an expanded outgoing line bay at the 500kV Liupanshui Substation to facilitate power plant access. With a transmission capacity of 2 million kW, the project will enable efficient delivery from the Dawan Low-Calorific-Value Power Plant and associated photovoltaic and wind power facilities. It will also enhance the reliability and stability of power supply in eastern Guizhou, support the Liupanshui multi-energy base, and advance China's west-east power transmission program.
Addressing the challenges of high altitudes (1,700–2,400 m) and heavy icing zones along the entire line, GEDI implement anti-icing designs and active de-icing measures to ensure operational safety. Specifically, conductors in 30 mm and 40 mm ice zones use high-strength steel-cored aluminum alloy strands for enhanced tensile strength. Towers are reinforced with larger cross-sectional areas for cross-arms, main members, and diagonal members to increase ice-overload resistance. Additionally, ground wire de-icing insulators are installed along the line to enable immediate de-icing during heavy ice buildup. During construction, GEDI's on-site engineering team work closely with all parties to resolve issues promptly. Their technical support ensures high-quality commissioning and earns unanimous praise from Guizhou Power Grid Corporation and other partners.
