Huaneng Dongguan Gas Turbine Phase II Project Third Unit Operational

Recently, the third unit of Huaneng Dongguan Gas Turbine Phase II project, surveyed and designed by GEDI, was successfully put into operation, adding new momentum to the energy supply for peak summer demand in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The project involves the expansion of two 498.48 MW (9F) gas-steam combined cycle pure condensing peaking power generation units. Upon full completion, the project will become a backbone power supply in Dongguan, with an annual power generation of 4 billion kWh. It can save about 330,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon emissions by 1.3 million tons each year, thereby further optimizing the regional power supply structure, enhancing energy supply security, and facilitating the green transformation of the energy structure and high-quality economic development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

For this project, GEDI has conducted in-depth optimization and innovation design regarding system optimization and energy cascade utilization, striving to build a green, efficient, and environmentally friendly gas-fired power plant and achieve leading technical, economic, and environmental indicators among similar units. The project adopts a one-on-one split-shaft low-level large-platform operation layout, effectively reducing the height of the main plant and realizing compact equipment arrangement. It is the first thermal power project in China to implement a full-process circulating water wastewater treatment system, simultaneously removing nitrogen, phosphorus, COD, ammonia nitrogen and suspended solids, thus ensuring that the discharged water quality exceeds national standards. This contributes to Dongguan's development into a national pilot city for reclaimed water utilization. Furthermore, the project marks the first application of urea direct injection technology in Guangdong's gas turbine sector, simplifying the SCR denitrification system, reducing the plant's power consumption, and enhancing operating efficiency.
