On October 11, the launch ceremony of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory for Marine Infrastructure and the first session of the Academic Committee Meeting were held in Zhuhai. Officials from the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province and the Department of Transport of Guangdong Province, experts from the laboratory's Academic Committee, and heads of the co-establishing units attended the ceremony.
At the launch ceremony, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province presented the official plaque for the laboratory, which was jointly established by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in collaboration with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority, GEDI, and CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Institute Co., Ltd. It is dedicated to developing new green, low-carbon, and high-performance materials suitable for marine infrastructure, designing and researching next-generation large offshore floating structures and wind energy support structures, developing new design and analysis methods for marine infrastructure structures, establishing long-term monitoring and digital twin systems for marine infrastructure, and formulating intelligent operation and maintenance strategies. These efforts aim to provide new materials, theories, equipment, and methods for the development of safe, green, low-carbon, and sustainable marine infrastructure. The laboratory's Academic Committee consists of 11 experts in the field of marine infrastructure construction. The laboratory has 52 full-time researchers, including 28 with doctoral degrees and 40 with senior professional titles.
