Recently, the UK-China Workshop on Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage R&D Collaboration Opportunities was held at GEDI.
Academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and other institutes, together with industry experts, engaged in in-depth discussions on the development of frontier science and technology, technological innovation, and engineering applications of CCS/CCUS.
Carbon capture, utilization and storage is recognized as a pivotal pathway to achieving large-scale net-zero emissions from fossil fuels, and is one of the indispensable key technologies for reaching carbon neutrality goals.
In 2013, with the support and promotion of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Guangdong Provincial Government, the UK-China (Guangdong) CCUS Centre was established and registered under GEDI. Over the past decade, the Center has become an important industry-academia-research platform for carbon capture, utilization and storage in China.
GEDI has been one of the earliest in China to carry out CCUS technology research and engineering application exploration. It has built the first multi-threaded CCUS testing platform based on ultra-supercritical coal-fired power units in Asia, and the world's first 1000-ton-level carbon absorption & synthesis gasoline pilot project based on plasmon excimer carbon dioxide conversion & utilization technology. It has also conducted research on the large-scale and full process CCS/CCUS cluster planning for the first ten-million-ton-level land-sea linkage and source-sink matching in China.
More than 50 industry experts and academic representatives from China and the UK participated in the event, including those from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and the British Consulate General in Guangzhou.
