The First UHVAC Project in Southwest China Participated by GEDI Put into Operation

On December 27, the Sichuan-Chongqing 1000 kV Ultra-High Voltage Alternating Current (UHVAC) project, the first UHVAC project in the Southwest region and the first high-altitude UHVAC project in the country, was completed and put into operation with the participation of GEDI.

With this project now operational, the voltage level of the main grid in Southwest China's power network has been upgraded from 500 kV to 1000 kV. The project is expected to annually deliver up to 35 billion kWh of clean electricity from Western Sichuan to the load centers in Sichuan and Chongqing, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of nearly 10 million households. This development is significant for ensuring a reliable power supply in the Southwest, enhancing the electricity transmission capacity from Western Sichuan, promoting innovative breakthroughs in high-altitude UHV transmission technology, and driving high-quality local economic development and supporting upstream and downstream industries.

GEDI undertook the feasibility study and design work for Package 6 of the 1000 kV Ganzi-Tianfu South Line Project. This line spans 116.702 kilometers and encounters challenging terrain with numerous crossings, including two crossings over the Minjiang River, six crossings over railways, four crossings over expressways, eight crossings over 500 kV lines, and more than 30 crossings over 220 kV and 110 kV lines. In the face of these challenges, the GEDI project team completed the project's survey and design work to high standards, and facilitate the successful completion and operation of the entire project, by actively engaging in innovative design and optimization tailored to the project's unique characteristics.
