Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area DC Back-to-back Project Commissioned

On May 25, the VSC-HVDC Back-to-back Project designed by GEDI, was officially commissioned in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is the project of its kind with the largest capacity in the world and the first project of its kind that achieves zoned interconnection in a power grid load center. This project will substantially enhance the power supply capacity of the Greater Bay Area.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area DC Back-to-back Project is the most advanced new-gen VSC-HVDC back-to-back project in the world now. Once completed, this project will significantly enhance the power supply and distribution capacity of Guangdong Power Grid and, as estimated, will contribute no less than 188.3 billion kWh to the West-to-East Power Transmission Project in 2022. The east-west power delivery capacity of Guangdong will increase from 4,100,000kWh to 10,000,000kWh. This will be a massive boost to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
